Welcome to Hiroshi Suzuki's page at Studio925.

‘I have developed an intuitive relationship with silver which allows me to approach my work in a highly spontaneous way. Initiating work without development stages such as drawing and making small scale models could be seen as risky, but for me it allows a certain freedom to create intuitively, and remain true to the material.

Intuition and feeling are core to my creative process, allowing me to maintain sensitivity with the material.

The thematic influences in my work explore the suppleties within fluidity and sensuality, a very personal expression applied with an all encompassing hand.’

Suzuki believes that if a fully-developed idea already exists in his head there is little point in executing it. For him the excitement of  creation lies in the way the piece evolves with his inner feelings. The inspiration for his work comes from within himself. As he works the metal, he feels that he is part of it, flowing and bending with it.

He attributes this way of working partly to the Japanese aesthetics of freedom of expression and the finding of beauty in imperfection. He dislikes the confines imposed on him by executing commissioned pieces. Suzuki's background training was as a sculptor and one gets a sense of this  in his work.
