Welcome to my atelier,
the domain where the secrets of the craft make it possible that so many designs are materialized. This atelier should be the place where I can work quietly and in solitude. But over the last 30 years it has turned out to be a favourite place for many colleagues to come and fix a specific job or to come for advice. A hospitable accommodation as a stepping stone for starting silversmiths who want to gain further training, while they look and search for their own career and workplace. Since September 2008 the participants in the Silver in Motion program get their training here, as well as in The Watertower in Schoonhoven.
As it happened, all those who went through this atelier and found their own way in silversmithing, have become highly appreciated colleagues in the craft. We have become one big family of competitors in the art of silversmithing.
In this atelier I shape my own designs. Also I delight in making the designs by other artists.
Sometimes, a major project needs more hands to tackle. When in 1991 thirty table bells according to my design, had to be made, as gifts from the Dutch government to the European leaders present at the Maastricht Summit, a number of silversmiths left their own place to help me in this atelier.
In 1996 I got sufficient help to accomplish a large collection of exquisite designs by the Czech-born architect and glass-artist Borek Sipek. Masterclasses have taken place, out of which the projects of 'Zilver in Beweging' (Silver in motion) evolved; the projects which helped to bring silver back into the arena of the arts again.
In short, the atelier could have been an inward looking place where only a lot of hard and serious work at the craft was being done, in fact it turns out to be a sometimes noisy, always joyfull adventurous and outward looking sort of place.
